What the Galleri test is

The Galleri test is a simple blood test that screens for a unique “fingerprint” associated with many of the deadliest cancers. By identifying DNA shed by cancer cells into the bloodstream, it can detect potential cancers that may not have recommended screening tests today. Early detection can significantly improve treatment outcomes.

Galleri does not detect all cancers and should be used in addition to, not instead of, routine screenings like mammograms and colonoscopies. False positives and false negatives can happen: a “No Cancer Signal Detected” result does not rule out cancer, and a “Cancer Signal Detected” result needs follow-up testing to confirm.

Who should consider it

Galleri recommends the test for adults with an elevated risk for cancer, such as those 50 or older. Additional risk factors include diabetes, obesity (BMI of 30 or more), and a history of smoking. The test is available by prescription only and is not recommended for people who are pregnant, 21 or younger, or undergoing active cancer treatment.
